About us

Juniper Creek Energy Storage is a 200-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) located on a 5.7-acre site in Rancho Cordova, California. The project will use lithium-ion batteries and will interconnect with the existing and adjacent Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) Cordova Substation.

Visual Screening

Landscaping and vegetative screening will be used to shield views of the Juniper Creek facility from the residential neighborhood.

Project Location

The proposed location is an undeveloped site east of the Sunridge Park Village community and northeast of the existing SMUD Cordova Substation. The remainder of the surrounding area to the northeast, east and southeast is undeveloped land that is part of a South Sacramento Habitat Conservation Plan (SSHCP) preserve.

Construction & Operation Activity

As with any development, Juniper Creek will be subject to California’s rigorous environmental protection regulations. Construction of the facility will create relatively minor disturbances from vehicle traffic, construction machinery and equipment delivery over the course of a few months. Energy storage projects can be managed remotely and require minimal maintenance, so once the facility is operational, it will generate minimal vehicle trips and will not produce noticeable levels of noise. The site will be fully enclosed and inaccessible to the public.
